1000 miles today…the HARD WAY

I’m staring at Google Maps and just cannot find an easy route to start our trip. I’m looking for a direct route from southern Oregon to Monument Valley Arizona. We want to attempt an IronButt ride. That’s at least 1000 miles in the first 24 hours. Fast and straight interstate highways are typically chosen simply because it’s easier to get through 1000 miles on fast and straight highways with easy off and on stops for fuel and food.

Planning this trip to southern Utah was a dilema. We want to attempt an IronButt 1000 mile challenge for our first day ride segment. This will get us as close to Mexican Hat Utah, the start point for the Utah Backcountry Discovery Route (BDR)

We attempt our 1000 mile IronButt challenge ride …the hard way. 25 gallons of fuel, 10 stops, many wildlife encounters, 1 UFO, 20 hours, and 100% effort scooted the three of us from the southern coast of Oregon to Mesquite , NV.

Mesquite is the first casino town on the border with Utah and Arizona which makes it an excellent town to find a nice comfortable bed to finally rest after enduring our 1015 mile joy ride.
