Linda caught some unreal clouds heading toward Oregon. Are we just happy to see familiar scenery?

During our entire trip, we’ve been hoping to meet up with family somewhere in Utah. They live in Colorado and have been visiting Oregon so its perfect that we’ll be crossing paths on the way back. If all goes well, we’ll meet them on the road somewhere in Idaho or Utah on today’s ride. We both have iPhones so we use “Find Friends”, an Apple iPhone app. With Find Friends, we can see each other’s exact location and decide on the perfect place where we’ll be at the same time… Sounds like a good idea, right? Crossing our fingers that this technology thing will actually work.

We stayed in Price last night and are having breakfast before heading out. Isn’t it great who you meet while on the road? We start talking with a fun family at breakfast, 3 generations of Moto enthusiasts! (They own and run Frank’s Glass in Price) Good people and a special shout out to young Skylar. He’s a Moto fan and enthusiast. We had a great time talking with these fine folks. Talking moto is simply a wonderful pastime no matter where you are! Skylar is a James Stewart JS7 fan. Of course Skylar rides a Suzuki… this is a Moto family! I bet Skylar liked the JS7 sweep for both motos at the High Point MX nationals! James had a pretty good run there, but I am still rooting for Roczen94. Go Kenny!

We head out on Hwy 6 toward Salt Lake and then just follow the signs. There really is one way to get to Oregon from here and it is US 15. GPS is very good at routing you on the major highways and Navigon (iPhone app) even tells me which lane is OK including the HOV lane! BTW, the HOV lanes in Utah allow motorcycles and toll charges are zero when using HOV lanes. I like that. I’ll do a write up on Navigon as it is a little pricey ($100), but well worth it compared to buying a dedicated GPS unit.

Our Tech tools tell us to meet our family at the Malade State Park in Idaho. We exchange texts and set the GPS… We actually meet there within 5 minutes of each other! Don’t you love it when technology actually works! We get some precious time with family before we all hit the road again and head toward our respective paths.

The ride is all on interstate highways. Can I say boring? It’s not really bad, and I have the comfort of riding with Linda. We use Scala helmet communicators so talk the entire way. I am amazed at how well we travel and can talk virtually the entire day without getting bored! The only variety on the road that we have is a little more construction… and thus the emergency stop at Meridian, ID Harley for a new headlight. Cracked and ready to fall out is not a good way to travel. I’ve got dual Halogen lights, so the fix is costly. They people at Meridian Harley are very helpful and their inventory is huge. They have anything that you may want (in stock) and willing to help lend tools if needed. Nice place to have an emergency. We have tools, so just pop the new parts on and we are on the road.

Tomorrow we wake up in Oregon. Home is almost in sight…

What’s wrong with this picture? The artful crackled look is not stock Harley. We had to stop at the Harley Dealer in Meridian, ID for a new headlight.

The ride around Price, UT

We found some DUCKS to ride along with. They’re from Oregon. Isn’t is crazy that you can find people from your neck of the woods no matter how far away you travel?

Heading into SLC are some wind farms. Nice scenery but wonder how many birds enjoy this scenery?

Family is always a welcome sight on the road

Yeah! This sign always makes me feel good.

Some preliminary numbers:

  • Countless liters of bottled water
  • 43 average MPG
  • 28 stops for fuel
  • 17 days on the road
  • Two stops for repairs (both my fault)
  • One 7 oz. can of Plexus Plastic Cleaner (helmet shield cleaner)
  • Zero bike cleaning supplies J

Tomorrow we go through the canyon road from Ontario to Burns, OR and over the Old McKenzie Highway near sisters. Both of these rides are excellent when in the area.
